Projects are shared workspaces in Assist that group everything belonging to one topic, matter, or deal: your chats, your documents and folders, and the colleagues you work with.
Each project also gives Assist standing context. The project description and jurisdiction are automatically applied to every chat inside the project, so you don't need to repeat the background in each conversation.

Before you start
- Every user can create projects. No special role is required.
- Only colleagues from your own organization can be added as collaborators.
- Every user also has a built-in Personal project, shown as Assist in the sidebar. It contains all your private chats and documents, works exactly as Assist did before Projects, and cannot be renamed, shared, or deleted.
- Projects in this article refers to Assist Projects. Extract has its own, separate project concept.
Create a project
To create a project:
- In the sidebar, click + next to Projects (or Create Project if you don't have any projects yet).
- On the Details tab, enter a title.
- Optionally, add a description and select a jurisdiction.
- On the Collaborators tab, search for colleagues by name and add them. You can also skip this step and add people later.
- Click Create Project.
The description acts as a baseline instruction for Assist and applies to all chats in the project. Use it to describe, for example:
- the matter or deal the project is about
- the parties involved
- how Assist should approach the work
The jurisdiction focuses Assist's research. Legal search and web search are limited to the laws and supported publishers of the selected region.
Work inside a project
Click a project in the sidebar to open it. The navigation switches to the project's own view:
- New Chat
- Chat history
- Documents
Everything you create inside the project belongs to it and is visible to all collaborators. Chat history and Documents only show the content of the project you're currently in.
A small people icon next to the project name shows that the project is shared.
Collaborate in a project
Collaborators can:
- view all chats in the project and start new ones
- read, upload, download, and delete project documents
- use project documents in project chats
- duplicate any project chat to continue it
Each chat has a single author. Other members can read your chats but cannot continue, rename, or delete them. Chats, folders, and documents show who created them, so everyone can see who contributed what.
Only the project owner (the person who created it) or an admin can:
- edit the project
- invite collaborators or revoke access
- delete the project
Continue a collaborator's chat
Chats created by other collaborators are read-only for you. To continue one, duplicate it:
- Open the chat
- Click Duplicate in the banner at the top of the chat
Alternatively, open the chat's menu in the project's chat history and select Duplicate.
You get your own copy of the conversation in the same project, which you can continue freely. The original chat stays unchanged.
Move a chat into a project
You can move a chat from your Personal space into a shared project:
- Open your Personal chat history
- Open the chat's menu via the three-dot icon
- Select the project you want to move the chat into
Documents attached to the chat move with it, so collaborators can open them.
Moving a chat is one-way. A chat can only be moved from your Personal space into a shared project, not back and not between projects.
Edit a project or view project details
To open the project settings, open the project and click the settings (sliders) button in the top bar, or use the … menu next to the project in the sidebar.
As the owner, you can change the title, description, and jurisdiction and manage collaborators. The collaborator list shows who the owner is. The owner cannot be removed.
As a collaborator, you see the same dialog in read-only mode (Project details).
Leave a project
Collaborators can leave a project at any time:
- Open the … menu next to the project in the sidebar, or open the project details dialog
- Select Leave project
You lose access to the project, its chats, and its documents. The owner can add you back later.
The owner cannot leave their own project.
Delete a project
To delete a project:
- Open the project settings, or the … menu next to the project in the sidebar
- Select Delete Project
- Type the project name to confirm
Deleting a project removes all its chats and documents for you and all collaborators. This cannot be undone in the app, so double-check before confirming.
Occasionally asked questions
What happens to the project description in my chats?
The description is automatically added as context to every chat in the project. You don't need to repeat it in your prompts.
Can collaborators continue my chats?
No. Collaborators can read your chats but not continue, rename, or delete them. They can duplicate a chat to continue in their own copy.
Can I move a chat back from a project to my Personal space?
No. Chats can only be moved from your Personal space into a shared project.
How does document sharing work inside a project?
Access is handled by project membership. The Shared with me tab and per-folder sharing are only available in your Personal space.
Can a deleted project be restored?
Deleting a project permanently removes it for all collaborators.
