The Personal Data Redaction helps protect sensitive data by redacting Personally Identifiable Information (PII) before it is sent to third-party providers such as Legal Sources, Web Search, and Otto Schmidt.
When activated, the system automatically redacts personal data before content is passed to web-based sources. This prevents personally identifiable information (PII) from being included in AI prompts without requiring manual redaction.
What Information Is Redacted
The following types of PII are automatically redacted:
- Individuals: names
- Organizations: companies, institutions (optional, see below)
- Contact details: addresses, emails, phone numbers, IP addresses
- Financial data: credit card and bank account numbers
- Identity information: passports, social security, health insurance details
- Vehicle details: license plates, registration numbers
Special Case: Organization Names
Sometimes, organization names should remain visible (e.g., “What are the latest news on Acme Inc.?”). In other cases, they must be hidden (e.g., “My client Acme Inc. needs to file for bankruptcy”).
Because the system cannot detect context, you decide whether organization names are redacted by toggling the Personal Data Redaction on or off.
A whitelist of certain generic organizations (e.g., court, government, parliament) is always maintained to prevent accidental redaction. This list cannot be edited.
How to Use Personal Data Redaction
You can enable or disable the Personal Data Redaction for each chat session.
- In the chat window, click on the Gear icon and locate Personal Data Redaction.
- Switch it on to redact PII before content is sent to providers.
- Switch it off if you want all organization names and details to remain visible.
When Personal Data Redaction is active, a hint will appear above the chat input on the main page.
