Use referencing to insert the value of a variable, e.g., in the content of a node. This variable can come from a previous node, a database, an integration, or it can be the variable of a built-in value. For example, you can display a person’s name when the name was previously asked for in another node.
Variable referencing
To reference a variable and display its value, type the @ symbol and select the value you would like to display. Alternatively, click + Insert and select @ Value from the dropdown menu.
In the value picker, choose from a list of values coming from previous nodes, databases, integrations, and BRYTER’s built-in values.
You can reference variables in many places, including nodes, hyperlinks, answer options of Single Select or Multiple Select nodes, and conditions.
Transform options
Formatting is carried over from the referenced variable to the displayed value. However, you can configure TRANSFORM OPTIONS to change the display format of the variable. Click on the variable reference to open them.
Expand for all available transform options
Access transform options for most types of input and value nodes by clicking on the referenced variable and selecting an option from the dropdown menu.
- Single Select and Multiple Select inputs offer no other transform options.
- Text inputs and values can be displayed Formatted or Unformatted, i.e., including or excluding bold, italic, or underline.
- Date inputs and values can be displayed Formatted, Unformatted, as a Day, Month, Year, or Day of week.
- Number inputs and values can be displayed Formatted, Unformatted, as EUR, USD, or GBP.
- File Upload inputs can be displayed as a Download link, File name, Format, File size, or File ID.
Various other transform options available for collection fields are accessible in places such as the calculator field of Calculate actions and Number values, or the default value field of an input node. These options mirror those available in a Perform Collection Operation action.
Show in graph
If you want to see where a variable was created, click on its reference. Below the TRANSFORM OPTIONS menu, click on the Show in graph button to jump to the node that creates the variable.
