Input nodes can be marked as optional so an end user is able to skip them and not provide an input. To make an input optional, enable the Optional input toggle in the settings at the bottom of the Input node.
This can be useful if you want to add text fields for additional information or comments that a user may not always want to provide. A File Upload can also be marked as optional, so a user can upload documents only if they need to.
The OPTIONAL badge that used to appear on optional inputs has been removed. Optional inputs no longer carry a label by default. If you want to signal which fields need to be filled in, you can mark required inputs with an asterisk instead, as described below.
How required and optional inputs are displayed
By default, end users see no indicator on either required or optional inputs.
If you want end users to see which inputs they must fill in, go to the module editor, open Controls and Navigation and select Show which inputs are required. Required inputs will then display an asterisk (*). When end users hover over the asterisk, a Required field tooltip appears. Optional inputs display no indicator.
Label optional inputs yourself
If you prefer to highlight optional inputs rather than required ones, add a note such as (optional) directly to the label of the Input node.
