What are optional badges?
Authors can choose to show or hide optional badges in the end-user interface.

Optional input in Input NodesEvery Input Node can be marked as optional so users are able to skip it. Simply enable the Optional input toggle under the answer options in your Input Node. |
Optional input toggled onWhen the Optional input is toggled on, an "optional badge" is displayed in the end-user interface. |

When the optional input is toggled off (i.e., the input is not optional) no optional badge is displayed. However, some authors may want to toggle on optional input but not display the optional badge. They can choose to show or hide optional badges in the Published Module Configuration. |
Why is it useful to show or hide optional badges?
Optional inputs can be useful in certain cases, for example, when:
- adding text fields for additional information or comments that a user may not always want to provide (at that time),
- File-Uploads can also be marked as optional, so users can choose to upload documents as needed, or
- users can choose to add additional terms in a contract that are optional.
Displaying optional badges enables users to determine the relevancy of certain inputs faster, allowing them to skip over inputs that do not apply to them. In contrast, hiding the optional badge may encourage users to be more precise. Depending on the use case, the former may result in more completed (but not necessarily complete) queries, and the latter may result in fewer albeit complete queries.
However, in most cases showing or hiding optional badges is a personal preference, for instance, to be brand-compliant.
