What are tables in BRYTER?
Tables refer to a display and formatting option in the CONTENT field of Nodes (Text Block Value, Result, and any Input Nodes). Authors can use tables to structure content within their BRYTER Module, as well as generate documents containing BRYTER tables.
Please note that the design of the table (e.g., change grid color, adjust the width of the table, etc.) cannot be adjusted at this time.
How to use tables
Authors can use tables in any kind of Input Node, in a Result Node, or Text Block Values. Tables in the BRYTER editor behave similarly to tables in Microsoft Word.
Adding a table
Authors can add a table by selecting INSERT in the content editor, then selecting Table in the drop-down menu.
Formatting a table
Once the table is inserted into the text editor, a set of controls is displayed below the main text formatting options while the table is selected. The menu is hidden when the table is no longer selected.
The table formatting menu is divided into three categories, each separated by a vertical divider. There are formating options available for 1) Rows, 2) Columns, and 3) Headers.
[ 1 ] Add row above adds a row above the selected row. The control is disabled when the selected row is a header row.
[ 2 ] Add row below adds a row below the selected row. When the last column of the last row is selected, you may also use the Tab key to add a new row.
[ 3 ] Delete row deletes the selected row.
[ 4 ] Add column to the left adds a column to the left of the selected column.
[ 5 ] Add column to the right adds a column to the right of the selected column.
[ 6 ] Delete column deletes the selected column.
[ 7 ] Add / Delete header row changes the type of the type of the topmost row. Selecting Add a header row does not add an entirely new row but changes the topmost row to a header row. Similarly, Delete a header row does not delete the entire row but changes it to a regular row.
[ 8 ] Add / Delete header column changes the type of the leftmost column. Selecting Add a header column does not add an entirely new column but changes the leftmost column to a header column. Similarly, Delete a header column does not delete the entire column but changes it to a regular column.
💡 Using table headers is strongly recommended as a default, as it makes tables accessible to users with a screen reader.
Adjusting column width
Authors can adjust the width of a column by hovering over the the column line right of the column which width they wish to adjust. The line will appear in a blue color and the arrow cursor will change to a move cursor to indicate that the column can be resized. Select the line and adjust the width as desired.
Moving a table
The table can be moved around the content field by selecting the six dots in the top right corner of the table and dragging it to the desired position.
Deleting a table
Selecting the trash icon will delete the table. Alternatively, the backspace key can be used to delete the table.
- It is not possible to style the table (e.g., change grid color, adjust the width of the table, etc.) at this time.
- Copying tables from BRYTER to MS Office, and vice versa, is not currently supported.
- When including tables in Send Email Action nodes, some formatting elements (e.g. borders) might not be displayed.
